Youth Volunteers in the Biomedical Services Summer Youth Corps program help save lives by volunteering for 10 shifts as Youth Blood Donor Ambassadors between June 15 and August 31.
Biomedical Services Summer Youth Corps allows youth to gain valuable work experience to prepare them for the future, spend their summer in an interesting & meaningful way, and give back to the community by helping to save lives.
Youth who successfully complete the Summer Youth Corps program will be provided a letter of reference for their portfolio and gain documented community service hours.
The program is open for youth between 13 and 24. Parental consent is required for youth under 18. Mandatory training is provided to all Summer Youth Corps participants. Most Blood Drives take place during the day, Monday-Friday, and occasionally on weekends. Youth will sign up online and choose the locations and times that best fit their schedule. Blood drives are held through the LA area. Youth will provide their own transportation to the volunteer events they choose.

Tips to Creating a Successful Profile:
1. Submit Volunteer Application- Already done!
2. Print the Parental Consent and Media Release Form, and CIIPA Form- To become a Red Cross volunteer you MUST fill out and return a completed Parental Consent and Confidentiality Agreement Form. You will not be allowed to participate in any Red Cross events until staff has received your consent form through the indicated email address.
3. Staff has received the signed Parental Consent and Media Release Form, and CIIPA Form- After staff has received your parental consent form, they will upload it to your profile under the ‘Files’ section.
4. Update your Profile- Fill in all requested information. Most importantly: make sure to complete the Emergency Contact section, upload a profile picture, and best contact information
5. Read and Agree to Red Cross Policies- Read the Red Cross Policies and check the two boxes stating that you agree with the Red Cross Code of Ethics and Conduct.
6. Online Orientation- Click on the ‘Register for Orientation’ link to sign-up for the online youth volunteer orientation.
7. Volunteer Interest Indication- One of the most important steps! When choosing ‘Volunteer Interests’, click on ‘Work with youth programs’. From there, choose your local Red Cross Youth Corps (i.e. Arcadia Youth Corps: Member), and then indicate which school you attend. This will give you access to your Red Cross Club and Youth Corps’ Group Share page, where you can stay up to date on meetings, local events, and service activities.

LDC is 5 day summer leadership camp focused on developing basic core leadership skills taught through interactive learning sessions. High School delegates work in teams to develop interpersonal skills and are mentored by HS, college, and young professional LDC Staff who have attended camp previously. Workshops include Communication, Group Dynamics, Diversity, Interview Skills, Presentation Skills and more. Delegates also learn about Red Cross service opportunities to engage their schools and communities through volunteering at their local chapter or Red Cross Club.
