This position supports the Regional SAF department and can be virtual a (volunteer-from-home) opportunity. Ensure military families are supported and their needs are met when faced with an emergency.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain strict confidentiality of any case notes, and private personal information in accordance with Red Cross policies
- Understand and apply Service to Armed Forces (SAF) policies, procedures and protocols related to Red Cross client services consistently and correctly.
- Support emergency communications, financial assistance, and provide additional services as needed. The follow up process includes making follow-up calls to families and/or military members or others to determine if their needs are met and provide other follow-up actions needed for complete and timely client service.
- Provide appropriate service to clients which could include referrals within the organization and to other agencies.
- Maintain professionalism and conduct as stated in Red Cross policy
- Maintain current casework required training.
Qualifications
Required
- Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer to include phone, personal computer and internet connection.
- Must have good customer service and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to treat people with respect under all circumstances and instill trust in others while upholding the values and principles of the American Red Cross
- Ability to apply active listening skills, empathy, compassion and employ reasoning and questioning strategies to capture, analyze, and interpret information from clients, staff, and management
- Good computer skills to include use of Internet search tools; Internet; and Microsoft Office Suite, to include Outlook, word-processing
- Effective interviewing skills and a sound knowledge of telephone and in-person etiquette and pleasant and friendly manners respectful of human dignity
- Ability to work with or without supervision and with a team
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work with culturally diverse populations
- Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies.
Recommended
- Able to support Red Cross SAF mission; have an awareness of and appreciation for military culture, military families, and veterans' issues

Time Commitment
Engagement opportunity available seven days a week; Flexible scheduling with weekly (2-4 hrs) commitment.
Approximately 6.5 hours of initial training to be completed virtually via mix of online and virtual instructor lead modules, as arranged by supervisor within two months to serve in role. *Intro to SAF Casework Curriculum (~4hrs/6 modules)
Attendance on department conference call or chapter meeting (phone/in person) required.
