This position supports the Regional International Services department. The purpose of this position is to expand Restoring Family Links service delivery to clients who have been separated from family members in other countries due to armed conflict, migration, disasters, or other humanitarian emergencies. Team members will be responsible for supporting and developing of the outreach strategy, expanding community awareness and resources, developing new contacts and volunteers and, effectively serving all clients and partners. Demonstrate commitment and understanding of the Fundamental Principals of the Red Cross international network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting the development and implementation of an outreach strategy.
  • Identify key agencies, religious groups, schools, community groups, non-profits, media contacts, and form sustainable partnerships to promote and benefit our services and widen our scope of referrals and resources.
  • Expand community awareness and resources
  • Develop new volunteer and community contacts
  • Work with Red Cross divisions/regions to share knowledge, support relationship building, and verify existing partnerships.
  • Identify successful stories to promote RFL services.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to comply with Red Cross COVID-19 policies for in-person volunteer activities.
  • Familiarity with the Restoring Family Links program and International Services, how these services fit with American Red Cross Domestic programs and why it is important to your audience. (Preferred)
  • Desire to support the American Red Cross humanitarian mission through reconnecting separated families. (Required)
  • Ability to work independently with diverse populations, in a culturally competent manner and to embody the Red Cross fundamental principles including impartiality and neutrality. (Required)
  • Excellent communication skills (Required)
  • Experience in public speaking, presentation, or training (Preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft products, familiarity with social media tools and resources (Required)

Time Commitment

  • 3 hours/month

Development Opportunities

This position offers the opportunity to develop an array of professional skills   including public speaking, networking, event management, logistics, community resilience building, capacity building for your chapter, the outreach team member is able to contribute meaningfully to a program which serves families who have been internationally separated due to crisis, armed conflict, migration and/or disaster. 

Length of Appointment

  • 6 months minimum

Key agencies include but are not limited to religious groups, schools, community groups, non-profits, coalitions, committees, government agencies, media contacts. International Services Leads in the Regions within your Division. Restoring Family Links team at National Headquarters, other International Services/Service to Armed Forces paid and volunteer staff.

Training

Training outlined below is not a prerequisite and will be part of RFL on-boarding.

 

REQUIRED:

  • Orientation to the American Red Cross (online)
  • Introduction to Restoring Family Links (online)
  • Restoring Family Links Casework Course (online or in-class)
  • Outreach workshop or online course
  • On-The-Job training and shadowing RFL Lead or other staff/volunteers

 

RECOMMENDED:

  • Psychological First Aid (online)
  • The World of Red Cross and Red Crescent (online)
  • Disaster Cycle Services introduction
