This position supports the Regional Disaster Services department. The Disaster Action Team (DAT) Supervisor (SV) serves as a team leader on a Disaster Action Team response providing scheduled 24-hour immediate support and assistance to individuals and families who have been impacted by a home fire or other local disaster. The DAT Supervisor is responsible for leading the on-scene response to ensure the immediate disaster-related needs of our clients are assessed and addressed. Assures all Red Cross standards and procedures are followed and monitors the safety of the on-scene team members.

Key Responsibilities

DAT/SV-specific Responsibilities: 

  • Leads an assigned team to respond to local disasters within established time frames defined in the Disaster Action Team Program Standards & Procedures. 
  • Identifies and liaises with the on-scene incident commander and other appropriate authorities to coordinate Red Cross activities. 
  • Supports the DAT in delivering client assistance in accordance with Red Cross standards and procedures.  
  • Maintains regular communication with Duty Officer and other members of the team while assigned to an event to ensure continuity and safety. 
  • Responsible for the issuance of financial assistance during the delivery of services. 
  • Maintains and accounts for personal inventory of Client Assistance Cards (CACs). 
  • Assesses and communicates the need for additional support and resources (Public Affairs, Disaster Mental Health, Health Services, and Disaster Spiritual Care) to the Duty Officer and/or DAT Manager as appropriate. 
  • Ensures adequate DAT supplies, such as comfort kits and intake resources are on scene for DAT responders. 
  • Uses RC Care system to enter case data and issue Immediate Assistance using the Electronic Funds Transfer or CACs.  
  • Attends regularly scheduled team/DAT meetings as required by Chapter/Region. 
  • Supports DAT capacity building by mentoring and training DAT responders on DAT responses and exercises when available. 
  • Maintains RC Care Intake Worker user access. 
  • Maintains RC Respond General User access.

  • Monitor activities and notify RLOC leadership of any issues and concerns.

Qualifications

DAT/SV-specific Qualifications (required) 

  • Response experience on at least one multi-family event. 
  •  Reliable access to a cell phone (with ability to receive text messages), laptop or computer. 
  • Be available to respond reliably to local disasters during assigned shifts in RC Respond, the DAT scheduling system, and communicating scheduling conflicts with DAT Leadership. 
  • Must sign up for the minimum number of required shifts per month as determined by the region. 
  • Able to follow Red Cross DAT and related standards and procedures. 
  • Know how to: 
  • Lead/supervise others 
  • Use RC Care and RC Respond systems  
  • Must be 18 years or older. 
  • Must have a valid driver's license and/or a timely, reliable way to get to the scene.

  • Ability to use information for identifying, organizing, planning, and allocating resources. 
  • Ability to delegate work, assign tasks, and monitor task completion of direct reports.

  • Written recommendation from DAT Coordinator and DPx for promotion.
