Help the Communications Department publicize information about Red Cross programs and services (such as disaster services and Services to the Armed Forces), as well as campaigns (including the Home Fire Preparedness Campaign) special events and fundraising events across the Los Angeles Region.

ARC: West LA Red Cross Humanitarian Services HQ

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and write news and feature articles on breaking news and scheduled events for Red Cross websites, as well as donor and volunteer online and print newsletters.
  • Write press releases for Red Cross events and news stories.

Length of Appointment

Minimum of 3-6 months, renewable.

Relationships

  • Reports to Publications Editor and works with entire Communications Dept. team.
  • Works closely with other Red Cross departments and external organizations to create articles and news stories.

Training

  • Volunteer Orientation

Qualifications

  • Journalism/communications background preferred (Need to submit writing samples). 
  • Excellent writing, grammar, interview and research skills.
  • Should be creative and have sharp eye for detail.
  • Strong copy editing/proofreading skills. 

Time Commitment

Must be available to write a minimum of 2 articles a month. Availability to come to West LA office every two weeks is preferred
