NHQ:BSI - Digital Accessibility Volunteer
This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Humanitarian Services (HS) Business System Integration (HS-BSI) team. The HS-BSI team aspires to create inclusive and accessible digital experiences for our workforce and clients while also ensuring our digital products support successful mission delivery. We take a holistic view toward inclusion to include not only the digital user experience but also data models, digital identity, and digital content. Our Digital Accessibility team has many opportunities to involve your unique skillset. Our monthly schedule consists of virtual events, routine meetings with the Ability Network as well as meet-and-greets with other volunteers across the organization who are also contributing to the American Red Cross digital accessibility efforts. The Digital Accessibility Volunteer will assist the HS-BSI team on digital accessibility standards, inclusive design, and user experience (UX) research to collaborate with product teams throughout the development lifecycle. This is a 100% virtual (volunteer-from-home) opportunity.

- Work with BSI Team and HS department to propose and implement solutions to address and improve digital accessibility and inclusion
- Support initiatives that gather data, analysis, and tools to provide accurate information to support decision-making
- Translate UX research findings into actionable outputs.
- Work with agile product teams to contribute to user story development and accessibility acceptance criteria.
- Contribute to the design and development of accessible updates for digital resources from all across the organization
- Document digital accessibility best practice training and documentation to expand adoption across Red Cross product, technology and content teams.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience with common accessibility testing software (e.g. AxePro, SiteImprove, WAVE, AMP, etc.), device emulators, and assistive technology (e.g. JAWS, VoiceOver, NVDA, etc.) and devices (e.g. screen readers, alternative inputs, etc.)
- Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually
- Enthusiasm about using technology to improve the delivery of services to Red Cross clients
- Excellent organizational skills (including digital organization)
- Experience with remote collaboration tools and platforms
- Excellent communication (phone, email and instant messaging skills
- Comfortable using mobile and desktop technology

- Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies
Preferred:
- Prior experience reporting on quantifiable improvements for accessibility and inclusion to support DEI outcomes
- Certification in UX / UI design, research
- Technical writing skills
- Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
- Experience working with small teams
- Experience with Red Cross services

Development Opportunities
- Build experience in coaching, training, customer service and remote facilitation
- Contributing to the development of the Accessibility Program which seeks to prioritize accessibility and inclusion through digital resources across ARC
- Collaborating with Accessibility and DEI specialists on a monthly basis
- Participate in the trainings that the American Red Cross has curated for volunteers involved in any Disability Inclusion or DEI initiatives.
