NHQ:COMM - Turkish Translator / Proofreader

This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Communications (COMM) department. This is a 100% virtual (volunteer-from-home) opportunity. The Translator / Proofreader volunteer will work closely with the Multicultural Communications Director to translate and review written or spoken materials from one language. You must be fluent in writing and reading in both languages and understanding common cultures and phrases in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate by reading or listening to material in one language and converting it into a second language, preserving the original meaning.
  • Refer to translation software for efficiency and consistency.
  • Translate a variety of internal/external documents.
  • Adhere to Red Cross translation guidelines and terminology, ensuring completed work follows established standards.
  • Consults with subject matter experts and others to understand specialized concepts and translate them appropriately.



  • Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually.
  • Proficient in Turkish writing, editing, and speaking in a style that is neutral in tone/dialect.
  • Experience in translating materials and meeting project deadlines
  • Exceptional proofreading, grammar, and writing skills in both Turkish and English.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word
  • Ability to identify errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, style, etc.
  • Ability to adjust to speakers with diverse voices speaking rapidly at times.
