This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Training Services (TS) department, specifically the Lifesaving Awards Program (LSA). This is a 100% virtual (volunteer-from-home) opportunity.

 

The LSA awards individuals who have used their American Red Cross training and skills to save or sustain life.  The Spanish Translator / Proofreader Volunteer Liaison will accurately translate written or spoken material from one language to another.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and translate award nomination forms, translate by reading or listening to material in one language and converting it into a second language, preserving the original meaning.
  • Communicate with public and Red Cross employees and volunteers to verify required information and request additional information if necessary.
  • Create and write Lifesaving Award certificates and citations.
  • Write bi-lingual internal and external communications.
  • Refer to translation software for efficiency and consistency.
  • Consult with subject matter experts and others to understand specialized concepts and translate them appropriately.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually.
  • Proficient in Spanish and English writing, editing, and speaking.
  • Note: A Spanish proficiency test must be completed as a part of the interview process for this position.
  • Experience in translating materials between Spanish and English (including adjusting to speakers with diverse voices speaking rapidly).
  • Exceptional proofreading, grammar, and writing skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Experience in writing bi-lingual internal and external communications.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to identify errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, style, etc.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Time management skills.
  • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies.

 

Preferred:

  • Interviewing experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent life experience

Training

  • Orientation to American Red Cross
  • Onsite training provided.

Length of Appointment
