This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) International Services Development (ISD) team. Specifically the External Partnerships and Movement Transformation unit. The volunteer partner to the Senior Movement Relations Advisor serves as a thought leader and extension to the Senior Advisor in representing ISD and connecting the ISD mission internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities

The position partners with the Senior Movement Relations Advisor in day-to-day decision-making, strategy, tactics, and the drafting of briefing and presentation resources. From a longer-term perspective, the position will also provide counsel in planning, ensuring that departmental objectives are met, donor and organizational policies are implemented, and risks are managed. Partnering includes strategy development for the department's objectives, including Movement relations goals. Examples of Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Contribute to advocacy and effective Movement governance objectives, including movement relationship management key messaging and ARC representation 
  • Contribute towards the formulation of strategy and implementation thereof for Movement reform and stronger Movement governance
  • Work with program and communications staff to develop Movement policy outcomes priorities and implement strategies to achieve a wide range of tactics
  • Develop resources on international humanitarian issues and the global Red Cross/ Red Crescent network to support ARC
  • Assist the ARC in planning efforts for International Statutory Meetings
  • Participates in Red Cross chapter presentations with the ISD /Movement Transformation team
  • Shares volunteer needs within social networks/circles of influence 
  • Routine meetings with key stakeholders
  • Analysis of Red Cross Movement policy

Required:

  • Engages tasks and challenges as a strategic thinker with a starter-finisher drive
  • An ability to identify both behavior and technology solutions that can improve our capacity to deliver our objectives
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with an ability to perform in stressful situations with tight deadlines
  • A natural connector, able to connect the community needs with American Red Cross and world Movement
