Biomed: Blood Services Donor Services Logistic Volunteer

This position supports the regional Biomedical Services Donor Services department. This opportunity requires participation in in-person activities and/or perform work in a Red Cross facility. Assist the Red Cross mission by supporting the Donor Services function: manage totes at a staging location, unload equipment/supplies on trucks, may drive to and from blood drives and support the unloading of totes and products from trucks and vans at blood drives. Comply with safety policies and procedures in the work area and use applicable, provided protective equipment (ex: gloves, face masks) to prevent exposure to potentially infectious blood and body fluids. Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Loading/Unloading and Driver/Driver Support
  • Staging of supplies/totes for mobiles
  • Managing totes at a staging location
  • Unloading equipment/supplies on trucks
  • Drive ProMaster to and from blood drives in in staging area parking lots
  • Handle blood and regulated medical waste
  • If driving to a drive, may perform Blood Donor Ambassador tasks
  • Will not be able to evaluate site or beltline, would need to partner with Collections staff to complete drive set up
  • Communicate and share feedback and logistical information with Red Cross Staff
  • Drive and work in a safe and responsible manner
  • Communicate in a professional manner with employees, donors, other volunteers, and sponsors
  • Maintain manual and computer records
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures while driving and in the work area and use applicable, provided protective equipment (ex gloves, face mask)
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State, and local regulations

Qualifications

  • Required:
  • Physical requirements may include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, as well as pushing or pulling heavy weights up and down ramps (potentially up to 250 lbs in weight and with up to 75-degree angles). Physical requirements may be performed in adverse weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license - minimum 3 years driving experience with good driving record.
  • Able to withstand temperatures in a typical staging or loading environment including trucks and loading area. Position may require climbing on and off trucks.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team and provide customer service skills to blood donors.
  • Often required to wear protective items such as gloves, face masks, etc.
  • Ability to monitor work plus volunteer plus driving hours and work within time and hours standards.
  • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies

Preferred:

  • Experience with basic computer operation
