This position supports the Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC), an International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) reference center hosted by the International Services Department (ISD) of the American Red Cross. This is a 100% virtual (volunteer-from-home) opportunity. This volunteer position provides graphic design support to the Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC), a part of the global Red Cross network. The GDPC develops innovative disaster preparedness projects, tools, and services that are promoted globally using videos. The volunteer will help add subtitle translations to promotional and instructional videos.

Key Responsibilities
The volunteer will collaborate with the Program Manager at the Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC) to edit subtitle translations that raise awareness of disaster preparedness messages and global initiatives. The volunteer will join a team within the Engagement and Innovation Unit at GDPC along with Content Contributors and additional Graphic Design Volunteers.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with the GDPC team to add subtitle translations to existing promotional and instructional video content to be published on the GDPC website (preparecenter.org), mobile apps, social media, and more.
- Help generate new ideas for video content creation. - Manage other video needs such as presentations, tools, and reports.
- Support efforts to improve usability, readability, and GDPC image across all video media.
- Work with the communications team on campaign initiatives.
- Support high quality video content for GDPC.
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually.
- Current or past work either as a video editor.
- Excellent video editing techniques or abilities.
- Experience in subtitling.
- Experience using and access to video editing software iMovie, Adobe Premiere.
- Familiarity with video editing best practices.
- Experience with video post-production, production, with preference for experience with writing scripts, and/or animated video.
- Familiarity with disaster preparedness and humanitarian services.
- Willing to download and use communication and task management platforms such as Slack, Trello, Zoom, Google Docs, or One Drive.
-Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies.
Preferred qualifications:
- Creative thinking.
- Experience in virtual reality, augmented reality.
Training
Social Media Basics (Recommended)
- Orientation to Red Cross Values (online)
- Communication and storyteller training through International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) (online)
- Learning sessions about innovation, technology and humanitarian services. (online or in person).
- Emergency and disaster preparedness webinars.
Note: Completion of some trainings will be required as part of on-boarding during the first three months
