This position supports the Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC), an International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) reference center hosted by the International Services Department (ISD) of the American Red Cross.
This is a 100% virtual (volunteer-from-home) opportunity.
The GDPC supports innovation and learning in disaster preparedness to enhance the international network of Red Cross and Red Crescent (RCRC) national societies’ disaster management capacities through a service-oriented and demand-driven approach to building community resilience.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage GDPC social media accounts (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook) to engage users, drive website traffic, and increase program awareness.
- Create and publish a wide range of social assets, including original copy, images, charts, infographics, map and short videos suitable for social media sharing (minimum 2 posts per platform per week)
- Monitor social media channels, respond to comments, and engage with our online community.
- Generate monthly engagement reports. Analyze performance and opportunities to adjust content strategies for optimal reach and engagement.
- Research, build and nurture social media partnerships that increase our reach and engagement to key audiences.
- Work closely with GDPC staff to align content strategy and calendars with programmatic priorities and event-related information.
Qualifications
Required:
- Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually
- At least 1 year of experience in social media management, digital marketing, or communications
- Strong knowledge of key social media platforms, trends, and best practices
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Enthusiasm for Red Cross mission and programs
- Cultural sensitivity with diverse audiences
- Experience with graphic design software like Canva, Photoshop, InDesign
- Ability to work independently and collaborate on cross-functional teams
- Ability to identify creative solutions and apply best practices in digital communications to a preparedness practitioner context
- Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders such as Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, corporate partners, internal American Red Cross and GDPC teams
- Willingness to comply with public health and Red Cross policies

Preferred:
- Prior international humanitarian experience
- Knowledgeable of disaster preparedness
- Comfortable working with different time zones
- Familiarity with SEO and online marketing strategies

Length of Appointment
