Key Responsibilities
- Engage with Blood Donors: Collect and confirm donor demographics to ensure accurate records.
- Assess Eligibility: Determine donor eligibility for procedures, making sure they meet the necessary criteria.
- Perform Health Screenings: Conduct or assess results of physical exams, including checking oral temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and hematocrit levels, following established procedures.
- Support Donor Health Histories: Facilitate and evaluate health history information, typically self-administered by donors, to ensure they are ready to donate.
- Utilize Technology: Complete computer-based training and use various computer applications for database access, data input, and more during your shift.
- Encourage the Optimal Donation Process: Help ensure we can meet our inventory needs and maintain the right supply of blood products needed for patients.
- Compliance: Adhere to all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations, as well as American Red Cross policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Stay Informed: Attend relevant meetings, skill competency assessments, and updates to stay current with best practices.
- Be Reliable: Demonstrate punctuality and dependability for all assignments, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for donors.
Relationships
Reports to Team Supervisor or Charge Staff, partners with Collections Team and Volunteer Engagement Team

Qualifications
- Willingness to support Red Cross Mission
- Must be age 18 or olderand hold a HS diploma or equivalent
- Ability to use and understand technology needed for position
- Customer service experience, effective verbal communication, and public relations skills are required
- Must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedure instructions and training
- Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies.
Exposure levels are based on the essential functions as stated in this position description; however, in some instances, variances may occur due to the applicable nature of this position within a particular work site. Therefore, the work site may determine the exposure level to be greater than or less than the below stated level.
This position is an exposure determination: 1 in view of the fact that the position requires the incumbent work under conditions where the potential exists for the incumbent to make contact with blood or blood components as a result of splashes, spills, and/or needlesticks.
Training
- Virtual, classroom and on-the-job instruction at various blood drive locations
- Classroom training is conducted during traditional business hours.
- Full time, uninterrupted 4-week training
