SAF: Service to the Armed Forces - Los Angeles Air Force Base Military Treatment Facility Phlebotomist

Provide assistance with tasks in a clinical setting. Support staff in a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities as well as enhance the morale of patients. This position is located at the Los Angeles Air Force Base. Be competent in collecting blood specimens from patients from all age ranges: infants, children, adults, geriatrics. It is a small lab and due to social distancing/health precautions the volunteer may be collecting about 10-20 patients during duty hours. The member understands the safety procedures and certain requirements when handling all patient specimens and enforces the importance of PPE.

Qualifications

  • Be certified as a Phlebotomist through an approved and licensed school.
  • Additional security and health clearances may be required by medical treatment facilities in compliance with government regulations (including military background and immunizations requirement)
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions, willingness to learn
  • Basic administrative skills
  • Excellent customer service
  • Good communication to include listening skills
  • Ability to work well with different cultures and personality types
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

Time Commitment

Volunteer Mon-Fri , 0800-1200 (we are flexible on hours)

Development Opportunities

Length of Appointment

 Mon-Fri , 0800-1200 (we are flexible on hours) , starting 01 October 2021- 31 Dec 2021.

Red Cross Management and all volunteers serving in leadership capacity; Department supervisor and staff; patients and family members

Training

To maintain compliance with CAP, a competency training will be performed to ensure the member is able to collect specimens and for record keeping.
