NHQ:ISD - PREP: GDPC Applied Research Volunteer

This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) International Services department. This is a 100% virtual (volunteer-from-home) opportunity. This volunteer position supports the Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC) team within the International Services Department (ISD) of the American Red Cross. We are looking for an experienced researcher and report writer to lead development of new sampling and analysis methodologies for disaster assessment using drones, and other qualitative and quantitative research activities.

Remote/Virtual Volunteer Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with ISD data and technology team to develop Terms of Reference for case study development and other research efforts.
  • Develop and carry out methodology and data collection for research activities.
  • Generate case study narratives from collected data to inform program management and illustrate best practices.
  • Make complex data into tangible and understandable insights by developing written reports.
  • Assist with desk research to support grant writing efforts of national society partners.
  • Engage with national society partners and other stakeholders to collect and synthesize information based on field experience.

Qualifications

All Required: 

  • Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually
  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field (sociology, history, other social research focused field).
  • 1-3 years of experience conducting research (qualitative required, quantitative also preferred)
  • Strong methodology skills and experience in data collection.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Adept at reporting and presenting findings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable working in a remote/virtual work environment 
  • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies.

Length of Appointment

1 year; renewable
