This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Disaster Finance (DF) team.

 

Supports Disaster Relief Operations as Financial Control Specialist to test financial controls. Monitoring will be for a specifically assigned financial area of a control environment such as procurement methods, vehicles, travel, lodging, and financial assistance.  This will be accomplished using tools, checklists, processes, and procedures of the American Red Cross

Key Responsibilities

  • Compile financial control reports for disaster relief operations
  • Distribute reports to deployed Finance volunteers and Disaster Finance Staff
  • Work with Disaster Finance Response Lead/Senior Analyst on assigned role for current disaster relief operations
  • May be assigned to multiple DROs simultaneously
  • Serves as subject matter expert for areas of financial controls
  • Remotely monitor activity from a finance perspective
  • Adhere to all finance policies, procedures, and practices of the American Red Cross
  • Perform related duties as assigned and required to fulfill the Mission of the American Red Cross
  • Attend additional training as required

Qualifications

This position may require you to interact at all levels of our organization and learn how finance fits into the Red Cross mission. We are searching for individuals who possess the following (all required):

 

  • Computer skills including intermediate level of knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Word, and ability to work in other Red Cross financial systems (will receive training) needed to pull reports
  • Ability to use financial control guidance and exhibit the ability to analyze financial data, detect anomalies and report discrepancies to management
  • Ability to evaluate a problem objectively and report findings concisely
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to write and distribute concise notes on the assigned activity that affects finance on the DRO
  • Speak on conference calls with Finance if needed
  • Demonstrate an ability to learn new finance-related information to apply for the benefit of organization
  • Work independently
  • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies
  • Access to a computer with Microsoft Excel, telephone, and reliable internet service.

Training

  • American Red Cross Orientation
  • Disaster Finance will provide all training required to perform the duties assigned.

Ability to use reports to acquire and evaluate information

Length of Appointment

6 months and ongoing as mutually agreed.

Time Commitment

Time commitment is 2 – 4 hours per day

Preferred commitment is for a minimum of 2 consecutive weeks.  Additional time is possible due to the nature of large Disaster Responses.

 

During the 2-week period:

While there is some flexibility for work to be completed in the evenings, preferred availability is M-F, 8am – 5pm EST
