NHQ:ISD - QDL: Drone Strategy Lead

This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) International Services Development (ISD) team. Specifically the Quality, Data, and Learning (QDL) unit. The Drone Strategy Leads will work with the International Services Department Data and Tech Readiness Team to develop and implement a strategy for incorporating drones into our humanitarian work with the wider Red Cross Red Crescent global network. The strategy will build on past work as well as lessons from other organizations. Two Leads will develop separate but coordinated strategies: for disaster risk reduction activities and for disaster response activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead development of a strategy for how American Red Cross International Services can enhance humanitarian activities in the global Red Cross Red Crescent network through the use of drones.
  • Working with the Data and Tech Readiness Team, research the opportunities in the use of drones in areas such as youth engagement programs, mapping, disaster risk reduction, disaster response, and rapid assessment.
  • Working with stakeholders, lead the creation of various guiding documents such as a theory of change, roadmap, concept notes, project proposals, etc. 

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience, or knowledge of, program design and/or performance and impact evaluation
  • Experience recruiting and/or leading a team?
  • Experience leading consultative processes and iteratively authoring documents through feedback cycles and engagement with stakeholders.
  • Experience or knowledge in at least one of the following?
    • Post-disaster rapid assessment
    • Spatial sampling and research methodologies o STEM programs for youth
    • OpenStreetMap
    • Drone mapping
    • Use of geospatial data for humanitarian or civic purposes
  • Experience condensing complex topics into a concise narrative.
  • Understanding of program design and monitoring concepts.
  • Experience with project impact analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of, experience using, or intense interest in drones

International Services provides standard orientation to the American Red Cross and the department.
