This unpaid internship position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Communications department (COMM). This position is a 100% remote (work from home), unpaid internship opportunity. All American Red Cross interns must be enrolled in an accredited college or university program.

Remote/Virtual Volunteer Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop captivating content for social media across our national platforms, including our blog RedCrossChat.org.
  • Identify creative opportunities for the Red Cross to amplify the story of its mission and influence on social media.
  • Support social media campaigns as needed.
  • Monitor discussions and social trends that mention or are relevant to the Red Cross.
  • Track growth and engagement and report on key findings and trends across our social media channels. 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Working towards a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Communications, Marketing or Public Relations
  • Experience with social media tools and techniques
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Experience using Microsoft Teams or Zoom for virtual meetings
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail

Preferred:

  • Junior or senior undergraduate student

Development Opportunities

The intern will gain a greater appreciation for diverse cultures and perspectives as well as alternative views and values by reading client stories and engaging with our audiences on social. They will gain a better understanding of their own personal values as they learn more about the American Red Cross mission and values.

16-24 hours per week during business hours (9am to 5pm ET)
