Assist Red Cross Blood Services staff at local Blood Drives.

• Welcome and greet donors, escort as necessary and assist with initial intake and hand offs through the blood donation process
• Ensure blood donors have relevant information and that questions are answered appropriately
• Learn and share the Red Cross story, including the mission, vision, and values
• Create a favorable impression of the Red Cross, and the blood donation process, that will encourage continued support
• May make reminder calls, re-schedule donor appointments, and perform follow up activities as directed
• Model excellent customer service behaviors
• Attend to donors in the Hospitality Area by ensuring that each donor is recognized for his/her contribution and watched for possible adverse physical reactions
• Set up and maintain cleanliness in Reception and Hospitality Areas
• Punctual and dependable in arriving for assignment(s)
• Work with collections team supervisor or charge staff to help convert right type donors to donations with maximum impact
• Responsible to inform donors about Red Cross volunteer opportunities and share recruitment materials
Qualifications
- Ability to serve as Red Cross volunteer by following the mission and fundamental principles of the organization.
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- Must have transportation as blood drives are held in different locations.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Ability to display the utmost professionalism and communication skills
- Extremely comfortable working with people from all walks of life
- Ability to represent the American Red Cross to the community
- Ability to understand technology needed for position: Donor Check-in, Donor Tablet, Rapid Pass, Donor App.
- Ability to explain/teach technology to donors
Time Commitment
Most blood drives are six hours long during normal business hours, weekends are limited.
Development Opportunities
Gain experience in customer service by providing assistance to our donors and helping the Nursing staff with non-medical tasks. Blood Services volunteers never handle needles or blood. Length of Appointment
Ability to work at least one blood drive (six hours) each month.
