DIV:DCS - Division Preparedness Program Advisor (Pacific)

This position supports the Divisional (DIV) Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) team. This is a 100% virtual (volunteer-from-home) opportunity. This position supports Disaster Cycle Services preparedness programming. Effective preparedness programming within a community assists its stakeholders to prepare for home fires and other disasters. This division position is responsible for advising, coaching, supporting and engaging Regional members of the preparedness team, which includes: 1. Providing timely feedback and coaching to Regional POCs regarding program planning and volunteer and partner engagement; 2. Advocating for availability of required training as for the Region's Prep volunteer's in collaboration with the Regional Disaster Workforce Engagement Team; 3. Providing recognition for successful completion of tasks; and in collaboration with Division DCS Team for yearly region recognition; 4. Interpreting and providing evaluation of performance against Divisional and Regional Preparedness Goals.

Key Responsibilities

This position supports overall preparedness programming within the Division including:

  1. Strategic planning for regional preparedness programs to meet their fiscal year targets;
  2. Ensure all program standards and procedures are being followed;
  3. Work with Region teams to ensure program events and activities are successfully scheduled and staffed appropriately;
  4. Advise through regional teams timely and relevant communications and marketing to promote the program
  5. Advocate for coordination of delivery of different preparedness offerings in the same geographic area concurrently to amplify visibility and impact;
  6. Coach Regional efforts to work with all Red Cross lines of service to build a robust outreach and community engagement program;
  7. Support Regional coordination with partnerships with Fire Departments, Schools, Social Service Providers, and other disaster partners as it relates to program delivery;
  8. Attend all training webinars, meetings, and workshops, led by the National Headquarters or Divisional team, and complete other required tasks, such as inventory counts, in a timely fashion;
  9. Support Regions to ensure all data is reported according to program parameters;
  10. Provide national headquarters with ideas, stories, and lessons learned that could improve the program;
  11. Support regions in providing documentation for possible lives saved;
  12. Coordinate division-wide program administration to ensure that all Regions are equipped to meet goals, adhere to program guidelines, and aware of reporting deadlines and instructions;
  13. Facilitate the identification and mentoring of new volunteer leadership
  14. Facilitate monthly Program Work Group Calls (second Wednesday of every month from 1-2:30 PST) and Mid-year & End of year one-on-ones with Regional Program Leads (10 regions, 10 calls, about an hour each, scheduled during business hours)

Qualifications

  • Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually
  • Experience with preparedness or educational programming such as youth education, instruction, and/or educational program planning, required
  • Some availability during business hours and availability from 1:00 – 2:30 PT on the second Wednesday of every month, required
  • Ability to build and lead a team using a collaborative leadership style, required
  • Experience leading and facilitating teams in a virtual environment, required
  • Demonstrates traits of honesty, forward-looking, competence, intelligence, and compassion, required
  • Capacity to envision the team's impact in their area and inspire them into action, required
  • Ability to communicate how the team fits into the larger DCS structure and how their actions can positively influence and support the DCS Program as a whole, required
  • Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups and individuals, required
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, required
  • Demonstrated ability to read, understand, and review program guidelines and tools, required 
  • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies

Time Commitment

As needed to complete key responsibilities. Could range from a few hours a week to 20 or more, depending on division of responsibilities across team. Some availability during business hours is required. Must be available to facilitate Monthly Program Work Group Calls on the second Wednesday of every month from 1:00 – 2:30 PT.

  2. Supervising Volunteers and Managing Teams
  3. Relevant Youth Prep and CPEP Presenter Trainings 4) Attend Smoke Alarm installation event, Youth Prep Presentation, and CPEP in traditional and virtual as available. (If delivering program directly, take additional program specific training).
