Key Responsibilities

The NHQ:IT – Enterprise Web Services – Code4Good Volunteer is an enthusiastic team player who wants to support the Red Cross mission by contributing your software engineering talent to develop features for the platform powering Redcross.org, Redcrossblood.org and related apps. Our platform represents a gateway for accomplishing several key goals of the Red Cross:

  • Publish life-saving information about the Red Cross, our mission, how we help, how to prepare for natural and unplanned disasters, and more
  • Solicit financial donations from supportive individuals who generously fund our Mission
  • Provide blood donors an easy way to schedule a blood donation appointment
  • Recruit volunteers who are responsible for delivering 90% of our disaster relief hours
  • Offer professionals and interested individuals training and certification courses that address daily emergencies in local communities

We’re looking for volunteers across the entire software development lifecycle, particularly those with experience in the following areas:

  • Technical team Lead/Product Owner
  • Solution Architect
  • Front-end Developer (HTML, CSS, AngularJS preferred)
  • API Developer (predominantly Java/Spring but open to any RESTful approach)
  • Full-stack Developer
  • QA Testing and Test Automation Specialist
  • Operations engineering (DevOps, containers, cloud-native technologies)

We operate Code4Good like an open-source project where a team leader/product owner publishes a product roadmap of stories, features, and tasks; we conduct planning sessions where you commit to an item based on your availability; and we ship code at the end of the work cycle. You can control your daily and weekly commitments based on your availability. All contributions large or small are welcome in this first-of-its-kind volunteer workforce program.
