The Red Cross needs excited youth volunteers to positively and professionally represent the Red Cross by providing excellent customer service to enhance the blood donor experience by: -Engaging with blood donors to promote blood donation -Ensuring long-term commitment for regular blood donations -Support the collection team in providing an excellent experience to generous donors Every blood donor you assist helps save up to 3 lives! You will also enhance skills and gain experience working directly with medical staff.

Key Responsibilities
· Manage the reception process by ensuring each donor is warmly greeted and assisted with initial intake according to the appointment priority system.
· Manage the hospitality experience by offering refreshments to donors, thanking them for their contribution, and alerting staff immediately if a donor shows signs of feeling unwell.
· Build a welcoming rapport with blood drive staff, donors and visitors by being flexible, helpful and patient.
· Set up and maintain cleanliness and organization in the registration and hospitality areas.
· Invite donors to become Red Cross volunteers, share special promotions, and schedule their next blood donation appointment on the pre-schedule sign-up sheet.
· Refer medical questions and concerns to the Team Supervisor.
· Represent Red Cross positively and professionally.
· Invite donors to return by providing educational facts about the positive impact of blood donation.
· Make reminder calls as needed to donors who have missed their appointments.
· Maintain visual observation of donors and visitors.
Qualifications
· Age 15-17
· Maintain regular communication with your volunteer coordinator. Return calls/emails within 48 hours unless out of town. Let your Volunteer Coordinator know in advance if you will be unavailable to volunteer for an extended period of time.
· Scheduling online is preferred.
· Arrange own transportation to blood drives.
· Ability to reliably complete all scheduled volunteer shifts
· Report to the Team Supervisor at the beginning and end of your shift.
· Maintain visual observation of donors and visitors.
· Read and follow the Donor Ambassador Guidebook and the Red Cross Volunteer Handbook.
Time Commitment
10, 5 hour shifts between June and September

How will I be trained?
• Mandatory training – June 6, 2019, 11AM-2PM, American Red Cross Blood Donation Center, 700 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia.
If you are in school during this time, we do have two conference call trainings:
-Thursday, May 30th @7PM
-Thursday, June 6th @7PM
However, these are only available for applicants who are not available for the in person training on the 6th because they are still in school.
