COM: Student Volunteer Spring Session
The Communications Student Volunteer will support communications activities that help fulfill the Red Cross mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. This position reports to the Chief Communications Officer of the American Red Cross Minnesota Region.

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may vary depending upon the goals, skills, and interests of the Student Volunteer, as well as current priorities and projects in the Communications Department. These will primarily include:
- Developing and distributing media relations materials
- Producing written and visual social media content
- Supporting the Disaster Public Affairs volunteer team
Qualifications
- This position is for a college student studying Communications, Journalism, Marketing or Non-Profit Management
- Commitment to the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated writing experience (will request 2 samples)
- Interest in working with media professionals
- Willingness to act as a Red Cross representative and spokesperson
- Experience in social media
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, including Outlook or ability and willingness to quickly learn
- Experience/interest in photography (preferred)
Training
- On-the-job virtual training
- Orientation to the American Red Cross
- Disaster Cycle Services Overview (Online)
- Public Affairs Essentials (Online)
- Other classes as appropriate
