As a volunteer donor ambassador, you’ll ensure every blood donor has a wonderful experience from start to finish. Greet donors with a warm smile, assist them with checking in, and express heartfelt thanks for their generous donation. You’ll be a key part of our Biomedical Services team, making a real difference every day. Each shift you take helps save lives. While this position requires that volunteers speak English, in some locations the role may place a special emphasis on engaging with donors whose preferred language is Spanish. (NOTE: this is not a translator role)

Key Responsibilities
During a shift, Donor Ambassadors will:
- Welcome donors with a warm smile, explain the donation process, and help with check-in.
- Guide donors smoothly through the Check-In process.
- Provide great customer service by answering questions and making the donation experience positive.
- Share the Red Cross story and our mission.
- Educate donors about how their blood types can be optimized to help more patients.
- Ensure donors have their post-donation information and check their recovery time.
- Encourage donors to download Donor App, use RapidPass and schedule next appointments via BookNow.
- Say thank you to each donor contribution.
- Reach out to donors with friendly reminder calls and help reschedule appointments as needed to keep our community connected and engaged.
- Report any issues to the collections staff and keep donors safe.
- Sanitize and disinfect donor areas as needed.
Donor Ambassadors are needed to support both mobile blood drives (which are hosted at community or sponsor sites) and fixed sites (Red Cross blood donation centers).
Time Commitment
Variable; preferred commitment: 1 shift/month

Qualifications
- Volunteer must be age 13-15 with additional adult supervision* or aged 16+
- Volunteer must be mature enough to maintain confidentiality and respond appropriately to adverse donor reactions
- Ability to display the utmost professionalism and communication skills
- Extremely comfortable working with people from diverse communities and backgrounds
- Ability to understand technology needed for position: Donor Check-in, Donor Tablet, Rapid Pass, Donor App, Book Now and Ability to explain/teach technology to donors and fellow volunteers
- Ability to understand and explain Donor Optimization to donors
- Ability to regularly commit to schedule, arrive punctually and adapt to a change driven culture
- Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies
- Willingness to carry vaccination card to work assignments

- Fluent / Proficient in speaking Spanish encouraged
*Additional adult supervision can be provided by a parent, guardian, sibling, teacher, youth club coordinator or other adult.

The following Red Cross trainings are required to serve in this role:
- Red Cross Volunteer Orientation
- Online Blood Drive Volunteer Training
- Ongoing training and refresher courses including Diverse Donor training
