We're excited to have you join us as a NHQ Volunteer Screener! Support the National Headquarters (NHQ) Volunteer Services (VS) department.  
 
The Volunteer Screener matches Red Cross volunteers with positions based on their interests, skills, and experience. This is done through phone calls with the volunteer and includes gathering relevant information about prospective volunteers while assessing NHQ volunteer opportunities they are best suited for. This position is 100% virtual.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviews volunteer applications to evaluate if they meet the position requirements.  
  • Conducts screening calls with volunteer candidates before referral to departments.  
  • Asks identifying questions during the screening call, appropriate to the responsibilities and qualifications for the volunteer position requested to determine if the candidate meets the requirements.  
  • Match volunteers with volunteer position based on their interests, skills, and experience.  
  • Refers or redirects the volunteer based on information gathered during the screening call.  
  • Completes administrative tasks within Volunteer Connection to track progress for assigned volunteers.  
  • Provides prospective volunteers with information about the intake, referral, and placement process.  
  • Supports special projects as needed.

Required:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Previous work experience in interviewing, screening, or recruiting, in any given field.
  • Enthusiasm for American Red Cross volunteering.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.  
  • Comfortable making phone calls to volunteers.
  • Complete Onboard Training (5-6 hours within 2 weeks of accepting the position). 
  • Comfortable using multiple modes of communication (MS Teams, Email, Text/Call). 
  • Comfort using web-based volunteer management system.
  • Capable of working with multiple websites at a time. 
  • Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually. 
  • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies.
  • Submission of Resume.

Preferred:

  • Broad understanding of the American Red Cross and its opportunities for volunteer service.

Training

Training on Red Cross systems and processes will be provided.

Length of Appointment

12 months appointment, renewable based on mutual agreement.

Time Commitment

Working remotely; must be available for 10-15 hours per week, including a minimum of 7 hours for screening volunteers and approximately 3 hours for administrative tasks.
