NHQ:DCS - Disaster Workforce Readiness - Workforce Engagement Team Member

This position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) team. This is a 100% virtual (volunteer-from-home) opportunity. This remote position supports a specific DCS unit volunteer supervisor and volunteers to ensure NHQ DCS volunteers receive support and recognition for their contribution; are treated with respect and dignity through collaboration with the NHQ DCS engagement team and the National Volunteer Services office.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

Articulates the Volunteer Engagement Cycle and the responsibilities of the unit within those steps to the NHQ DCS Unit leadership;

  • Serves as primary contact for NHQ DCS unit for any questions or needs related to volunteer engagement
  • Works with NHQ DCS unit leadership to identify tasks currently performed by volunteers.
  • Promotes the engagement of volunteers to assist with the accomplishment NHQ DCS unit goals (leveraging tools like the Volunteer Engagement Readiness Tool, the Volunteer Engagement Guide, and Engage Volunteers and Employees job tools).
  • Schedules and conducts volunteer interviews over the phone with volunteer applicants as needed.
  • Follows up with volunteers and unit leadership to ensure proper placement and job satisfaction.
  • Offers and promotes additional engagement, professional development and project opportunities to volunteers in the unit as appropriate
  • Works with Volunteer Services to create any needed positions within NHQ DCS unit
  • Develops and implements a mechanism to share volunteer feedback with NHQ DCS unit leads;
    • Acts as point of contact for Volunteer Needs Assessment
    • Ensures NHQ DCS volunteer information is kept up to date in Volunteer Connection
    • Advocates for NHQ disaster volunteers

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience supervising volunteers and with volunteer engagement
  • Experience working on a virtual team
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel
  • Experience with data entry and comfortable learning new online databases
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practices for volunteer engagement/management
  • Is dedicated to collaborating with NHQ DCS Units and volunteers; acts with them in mind; establishes and maintains effective relationships and gains their trust and respect
  • Enjoys working hard; is action oriented and full of energy for the things that they see as challenging
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Picks up on the need to change personal, interpersonal and managerial behavior quickly; watches others for their reactions to their performance and adjusts; seeks feedback

Preferred:

  • Red Cross Workforce Engagement experience
  • Knowledge of the Volunteer Services volunteer job tools
  • Proven leadership in nonprofit or for-profit organizations
  • Prior experience engaging volunteers

Time Commitment

20 hours per month, some availability during business hours
