As the face of Red Cross blood drives, you'll welcome and check-in donors, ensure they read pre-donation materials, offer promotional items when available, and ensure that everyone has a positive experience in a clean environment – and grab a cookie and a drink before they depart. Variable locations available in Artesia, Bellflower, Carson, Cerritos, Compton, Downey, El Segundo, Gardena, Harbor City, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, La Mirada, Lakewood, Lawndale, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Lynwood, Manhattan Beach, Norwalk, Palos Verdes Peninsula, Paramount, Playa del Rey, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, San Pedro, Signal Hill, South Gate, Torrance, Whittier, Wilmington and other communities.

Key Responsibilities

 Assist Red Cross Blood Services staff at local Blood Drives.

Registration: The Registration volunteer welcomes and thanks each arriving donor and works with the appointment schedule.

Refreshment/Recovery: The Refreshment volunteer welcome donors after they have donated blood by hosting the refreshment table and offering donors snacks and beverages.


  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must have transportation as blood drives are held in different locations.
  • Good customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to serve as Red Cross volunteer by following the mission and fundamental principles of the organization.

Time Commitment

Most blood drives are six hours long during normal business hours, weekends are limited.

Development Opportunities

Gain experience in customer service by providing assistance to our donors and helping the Nursing staff with non-medical tasks.  Blood Services volunteers never handle needles or blood.

Length of Appointment

Ability to work at least one blood drive (six hours) within one month.


Work with the nursing staff in a customer service role at local blood drives.
