Key Responsibilities
Volunteers providing remote support can work in several different departments and positions:
The Volunteer Services Intake Center (VIP) Representative helps new volunteers navigate the volunteer database intake process through phone and email support. Volunteers must have access to a phone, reliable internet and a computer and be available 4 hours per week (days and times are flexible and can be done any time/day of the week).
The Volunteer Dispatcher / Regional Duty Officer receives calls from First Responders and deploys Red Cross volunteers to assist those in need. Initial training must be completed at a Red Cross office; upon completion of training, this position may be done remotely from any location. Volunteers must be able to accept an average of 4 shifts per month; shifts are a minimum of 4 hours in duration.
The Disaster Public Affairs Volunteer sends media alerts about Red Cross disaster responses throughout the region. This is an on-call position that can be done from a Red Cross office, from home or any remote location. Volunteers must be able to accept at least 1 on-call evening or weekend shift per week and have access to reliable internet, a computer and phone during their on-call time.
The Caseworker provides follow up casework to families and individuals. Opportunities for casework volunteers are available in Disaster Services and in the Service to Armed Forces department. Volunteers must be able to commit to 4 hours (1 shift) per week; shifts are available all days of the week.
Preparedness Help Line Support volunteers manage our Preparedness Help line where the public can call in and request connection to services such as preparedness presentations, free smoke alarms, and more. This role can be done remotely, require access to a phone, computer and internet and would only require about 2-3 hours per week checking the line daily either in the AM or PM and helping transcribe the calls onto an online spreadsheet. We would also love to have support from those who can speak/translate languages other than English.
The Fiscal Review Volunteer will help oversee the client assistance provided by the Red Cross to individuals affected by disasters. If you have a background in finance or accounting, we can definitely use your assistance. This on-call position requires about 2-3 hours per week commitment and training can be done remotely.
The Workforce Planning Metrics Specialist provides data entry and analytical support using Microsoft Excel to maintain metrics and dashboard spreadsheet data as part of the Finance, IT, and Real Estate Workforce Planning business unit team (this is a National Headquarters position). Minimum commitment for this role is 5 hours per week.
The Disaster Staffing and Deployment Representative provides support to disaster relief operations by deploying, placing and supporting qualified volunteers into Disaster Relief positions during local and national emergencies. This position requires strong telephone and organizational skills. Time commitment varies based on disaster activity.
The Finance Virtual Deployment Volunteer virtually deploys to low level Disaster Relief Operations as the Finance Assistant Director to provide finance guidance to the operation along with testing of financial controls, monitoring specific financial areas of control environment such as purchasing, warehousing and financial assistance. This will be accomplished using tools, checklists, processes and procedures of the American Red Cross. For additional details and to apply, click here:

Training
Job specific training is provided, free of charge, for all positions. Additional disaster services training is also available for all volunteers.
