Event Participation Request: Presentations

We offer various free emergency preparedness presentations for your organization. Each of our presentations will teach participants how to get an emergency kit, make a plan, and information on what to do during and after an emergency. The presentation will be delivered by trained Red Cross volunteers or staff members, and we will bring all our own materials and equipment. For the safety and efficiency of our program, please keep the following guidelines in mind before requesting a presentation:

Events must be in a secure public venue, such as a classroom, community center, or conference room. We do not do presentations in personal homes, parking lots, or restaurants. Requests should be submitted at least 30 days before the event date to allow us enough time to recruit a presenter and prepare materials. We require at least 20 participants at a presentation, with seating for every attendee.

Completion of this online form is not confirmation of ARC participation. Attendance at events is based on volunteer availability and event relevance to the American Red Cross Mission.  Please note: Requests for other services including First Aid Stations (http://tiny.cc/la-firstaid) and Blood Drives (http://tiny.cc/la-bloodrive) are not included on this form.

Preparedness Presentation for Adults

Prepare U is a one hour PowerPoint presentation intended for general audiences. This presentation will show participants how to Get a Kit, Make a Plan, and Be Informed. We require an outlet to plug a laptop and projector into, as well as a screen or blank wall to project onto. Each participant will receive materials to help them build a kit and make an emergency plan.

Pillowcase Project

This presentation is also one hour, and is intended for children ages 7-9. Students will receive a workbook and a pillowcase to keep that will help them prepare for emergencies in the classroom as well as at home with families. Teachers also receive a packet to help facilitate further learning about emergencies. Trained presenters will teach students what to do in earthquakes and home fires and lead participants in interactive activities. This program is sponsored by Disney. Due to a high volume of requests for this presentation and limited supplies, we may not be able to accommodate all requests.

Prepare Teens

This program is a one-hour PowerPoint presentation for teens ages 10-17. The first half of the presentation will show teens how to prepare, plan, and react appropriately to an emergency. The second half is an interactive Jeopardy style game where participants will compete to answer questions about preparedness.  This also utilizes a projector and laptop and requires an outlet and screen or blank wall. Participants will also receive the materials disseminated in the Prepare U presentation.

Community CPR and First Aid

We offer a discounted CPR and First Aid class to some select audiences. Typically, these are community groups based in low-income areas, ESL, high school students and seniors. With this program, participants will be certified in just Adult CPR and First Aid (not AED or Infant CPR) for two years, at an extremely discounted price of $5 per participant. This program is very limited, and is taught by our Americorps team who serve through a portion of the year. We cannot guarantee requests can be fulfilled
